Crazy, Yet Not So Crazy

For years, I think people have seen me as crazy & wanting to opt out of society.

My husband and I have neither worked “a job” nor voted in any political elections for the past 10-15 years. Our kids haven’t gone to any public school and our family doesn’t attend church anymore.

We don’t have a cellphone or use wi-fi, and I haven’t gotten involved with much social media online beyond Facebook. (And I’ve grown to despise Facebook.)

For a long time now I’ve been seeing something wrong with the mainstream society, and I realized years ago that the problem stemmed from the System in which it operates.

It’s not that I wanted to opt out of society, I just wanted to bail on the corrupted world made by human hands, without bailing on human interaction (or sustainable human innovation). I long for human interaction. I just want to have it outside the System, not in it. (And while I would like to go old school, I only want to take a step or two back in time — not go back to the Stone Age).

With all that has been going on since March of 2020, I’m hoping more people are waking up to the cause of society’s problems, the corrupted System, and will begin to take measures to get out of that System and operate more autonomously.

Because, thankfully, I’m happy to see there is a counter-society in which God-fearing, family-valuing, freedom-embracing human beings can participate.

We are simply people who are trying to get as far away from the corrupted System as we can, seeking to govern our own affairs and providing for ourselves & our own households — both as individuals and in voluntary cooperation with like-minded neighbors (those who physically live nearby).

We are typically homesteaders and homeschooling families, but we all come in different shapes & sizes, and there are a gazillion flavors of personality & lifestyle.

While there may be extremes at both ends of the spectrum, there are plenty who fall in between.

All too often, only the extremes are what is presented online, and they appear to be all that there is — ultra liberal or ultra conservative, black or white, chocolate or vanilla, but I have to tell you, that’s not true. There are so many more diverse flavors out there – think, Baskin Robbins, Ben & Jerry’s & beyond!

I’m one of the more obscure flavors. 😉

Personally, I’m on the lookout for more of these like-minded folks — particularly the less popularized flavors. If you’re one of them — no matter the flavor, then please, give a shout out to me! I’d love to meet you.

We are a rare breed, it seems — but thankfully, not as rare as we once were.

And, if you’re in need of a move from your current location to a neighborhood of like-minded folks, then please reach out to us & consider paying us a visit.

Central Virginia is a beautiful part of the country — mountains 1-1/2 hours to the west, ocean 1-1/2 hours to the east — and zone 7 climate experiencing all four seasons distinctly. 😉

Yeah, I suppose breaking out of the mold I was raised up in seems rather crazy, but given the direction the society-at-large is rapidly heading these days, this out-of-the-box living doesn’t seem so crazy after all.
