Keeping It Real

Attention, Time & Energy > Dollars

In my view, by-and-large we have been sold on the idea that our attention, time & energy are worth dollars, but that is simply not true.

The Lies We Were Told

We were taught to go to school and get a job so we can earn the money we need to get what we need & want in life. Because, after all, money is what makes the world go ’round, right?

And what were we taught is money? Dollars.

So, when we reached a certain age, we started trading a portion of our attention, time & energy for dollars. And then we spent more of our attention, time & energy looking for places to spend those dollars and spent them. And this process continued over our entire lifetime.

While I’m sure we’ve all heard the expression “time is money”, I believe our attention, time & energy is money.

And the value of dollars pale in comparison to the value of our attention, time & energy. (I tend to think they aren’t even comparable.)

Throughout our lifetime, we have been inundated with attention-grabbing media. Why? Because someone wants us to pay our attention to them & their product (so we’ll spend our dollars and our time & energy on them & theirs) and distract us from paying our attention, time & energy (and dollars) to their competition.

Generally speaking, I don’t think we realize how valuable our attention, time & energy really are. (Even though most of us know that advertisers pay top dollar to grab & hold our attention.)

The more knowledgeable, insightful, wise, skilled and experienced we become, the greater our attention, time & energy grows in value, yet I don’t think people consciously realize that either.

Sure, we were taught that when we became more knowledgeable, insightful & wise, skilled & experienced, we could get more dollars for our attention, time & energy.

And that was the carrot that was used to get us to spend our attention, time & energy (and dollars!) to go to college and then work hard & stick with the same employer over the long haul with the hope of getting rewarded with benefits and dollar bonuses & promotions.

For some, that may have seemed to work out well, but I think now it is becoming clear how not well that monetary program was for us.

The Truth We Must Acknowledge

Human beings are highly complex creatures with an immense amount of potential to create & carryout an immense amount of good over the course of our lifetime. And the knowledge, insight, wisdom, skills & experience we each gain in life (in part or as a whole) makes our attention, time & energy priceless!

I don’t think there is a way to even quantify the value of a human life, no matter what age we may be.

Dollars hold no intrinsic value. However, our attention, time & energy do, as unquantifiable as it may be.

The only value dollars contain are that which someone else deems it has.

And while dollars may increase in value in the eyes of a particular beholder for a time, generally speaking, those dollars are continually decreasing in value every time the Central Banksters issue debt. (And the Central Banksters have been going to town issuing debt left & right, it’s mind-boggling!)

We need to WAKE UP to the FACTS that (1) DOLLARS are essentially WORTHLESS and (2) OUR ATTENTION, TIME & ENERGY are PRICELESS.

And, we need to REMAIN ALERT to these facts and ORCHESTRATE OUR LIVES better.

We Have Control

We HAVE SO MUCH CONTROL over our own lives — how we spend (and/or invest) our attention, time & energy. We really need to EXERCISE it WELL because we are FINITE BEINGS.

There is an end to our existence. Our days are numbered, and eventually we are all going to die. Therefore, the life we each have is precious, and we need to treat it as such.

How Are We Going to Exhibit Our Control?

How do you want to spend/invest your life force: your attention, time & energy, going forward?

Do you want to keep trading so much of it for worthless dollars? I don’t.

I want to invest my life force in making our world at home and all around me, a better place for myself, my children and their children-to-be.

I don’t expect others to realize my personal value beyond simply being a human being, but I acknowledge my value, and I choose to orchestrate my life (and make where I live better), as opposed to allowing someone else to conduct my life and my affairs for me.

How about you? Do you realize your own value? Do you acknowledge the fact that it far outweighs the dollars you’ve spent a lifetime chasing after? What are you going to do with the finite amount of attention, time & energy you have left?
