Keeping It Real

Who Wants to Learn From Me?

I’m not a board-certified teacher, but I have a unique set of experiences, skills, knowledge & understanding, and I believe I have value to offer those who are interested in the kinds of things I have personal experience with, adequate skills in, and a personal knowledge & understanding of. And I personally am able & willing to share with those willing to hear from me.

And then, while I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in a particular field of study from an accredited university (from over 30 years ago!), I wouldn’t consider myself an expert in that field — because I haven’t kept up with it, and I’m not even interested in that field anymore.

But there are things that I have been interested in over the past twenty-plus years that I have a lot of personal experience with, and I have specialized knowledge & understanding in several different fields. And I would consider myself to be of great value. I’d even say I am an expert in certain matters.

I’m not perfect, of course, but I believe I am more valuable than most board-certified experts, popular talking heads, and self-proclaimed gurus regarding particular issues and/or subject matter because of my personal desire for understanding what is true and my dedication & manner of investigative study in learning those things.

But I realize the average person may not be interested in my particular areas of expertise, and that’s fine. But since I don’t like to toot my own horn, and there are very few people who will toot it for me, the immense value I have to offer concerning these particular matters typically goes unseen.

Putting that aside, I have other value to offer that I believe the average person may be interested in. And I believe others have value that they could offer me.

Everyone has experienced things, become skilled in a variety of things, and knows & understands a host of things — and I imagine there are things that each person would even consider themselves to be an expert in.

The question is:

  • Are we willing to listen to & learn from each other?
  • Do we care about someone else’s experience?
  • Do we think becoming aware of or learning someone else’s skill is in any way useful to us?
  • Do we acknowledge that what we each know &/or understand is not entirely accurate and we could all use some correction & fine tuning?

And if we do…

  • Do we take the time to inquire these things of each other?

I’m afraid in this generation we have been conditioned over the past decade or two to go online to discover & learn whatever we want, instead of turning to our family, friends, associates & neighbors.

And the wealth of experience, skills, knowledge, understanding — & even wisdom present in the people we personally know & interact with typically gets overlooked.

And I don’t like it.

I want that to change.

I want to learn more about the people around me & discover what they know & understand and what, how & why they do the things they do, and learn from them. (And I want to bring the people that I’ve come to know & trust & like online around me in real life.)

And to be quite frank, I want people to learn more about me & discover what I know & understand and what, how & why I do the things I do, and then have at least someone learn something from me.

So, this past winter, I took the time to revamp this website in order to better showcase a bit about who I am, the kinds of things I’ve come to learn, and the what, how & why I do what I do, with the hopes of first connecting with people.

I want people to reach out & touch me. So, I’m trying to give them a reason to want to do so. And I think doing this might be a way to help make that happen.

Why? Because I’m a real, unique & multi-faceted person who genuinely cares about people, and I want to *see* people — and be seen by them. My heart’s desire is to develop a network of people around me (both near & far), whom I can befriend & become friends with, and whose lives I can enrich and by whom have my life enriched.

So I’m sticking my neck out above the crowd, and virtually sticking out my hand to say, “Hi, I’m worth getting to know, and I’d like to meet you.” All with the hope that others will do the same.
