Homesteading, Land A Walk in Our Woods December 8, 2020 / In early November I took a stroll through our woods to see the last remains of color on the trees. Here’s a brief tour of the highlights. The start of my beautiful journey out to the woods begins through the backyard. Our developing food forest & garden area is to the left. The house with attached greenhouse is to the right. The food forest / garden is still producing greens such as kale, cabbage, mustard, chickweed. A look back towards the front of the property. Beyond the barn which divides the backyard from the back-back pasture is a line of trees marking the front edge of our woods. A small tree line of evergreen cedars separating the back-back pasture from the pond on the right. Goats, responsible for keeping the trunks clear of brush, relax in its shade. Heading down to the pond, the neighbor’s wooded land beyond, harvested earlier this year. A few of our ducks on the front edge of the pond. The ridge beyond the pond, ideal for its breezy shade in the summertime. Canoes lie dormant in the foreground. Pine needles and cones cover the ground. Run-off from the spring-fed pond leads down to our not-so-grand canyon behind the ridge. The ridge facing the neighbor’s bare land. View from the ridge of the pond surface reflecting the sky. On the ridge looking back towards our property. An interesting crook in the trunk A trio of trees Split trunk provides two trees for the price of one. A view from inside the woods facing towards our back-back pasture. The forest floor A felled tree offers a place to sit Looking up as leaves gently fall from the sky. I feel so blessed to be living in this place. What a beautiful world our Creator has made for us. Wouldn’t you say?
