What Good Is Following the Lively/Baldoni Case?

I realize the pop culture outlets want to focus on the names of those involved in the Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni legal drama because that’s what gets most people’s attention, but the people who are actually following this case & reading the documents are operating on a different level than the general public. We’re using our criticial thinking & reasoning abilities.

We each have a voice and can shape the public narrative going forward. We can make it more about the wrongful actions than the people who are making them.

That’s what I want to do anyway — because honestly, nobody I know within my personal sphere of influence cares one iota about what’s happening in pop culture. What matters to them is what’s happening to the state of affairs in this country and how decisions made by powerful people & corporate entities are affecting them.

Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Justin Baldoni, etc. — they all have zero bearing on what’s happening in my life & the lives of those around me.

However, what they’re doing and what is being done to them does. Because aside from them simply being my fellow man (which does matter), their behavior not only affects other people, but it also affects how other people behave.

So, for me & the people operating in my circles, boycotting bad-behaving celebrities & their products mean nothing to us, since we’re not normally partaking of them anyway. But to me, joining forces with other people who care about truth and what’s right & wrong, regardless of political or religious affiliation, to do good in the world does matter to me.

The Good I see from following this case…

The “good” that I can see coming out of this whole legal drama is for morally upright human beings utilizing their higher-level abilities to create, communicate & connect with one another and build a network of trustworthy relationshipsapart from all of the celebrity drama.

Because eventually this legal case is going to be over — whether it gets settled out of court or goes to trial. And people like me are going to move onto something else — likely something totally unrelated to pop culture.

And I imagine by then, the state of affairs in this world resulting from the decision-making being done outside of our control is going to be worse (because that’s the direction we’re already headed). And it will affect most of us on both societal and personal levels.

We all have a choice as to where & how to spend our attention, time & energy. I’ve spent a good deal of mine over the past four months following this case and listening to a host of content creators, many of which I have come to admire & respect, knowing we likely do not all see eye to eye on politics and/or religion.

I believe those of us who are devoting so much of ourselves to this case are decent human beings given that we’ve demonstrated that we care about the truth, about what’s right & wrong, and about how one’s behavior affects another’s life.

We also can see the rippling effect one human being’s behavior can have on many lives — particularly when they couple themselves with other human beings & pursue common aims. Both for bad and for good.

I want to connect with others who are interested in putting more good into the world, and that’s what I aim to do 🙂
